PowderLog is an iPhone app that records a ski or snowboard day. This page explains what stays on the phone, what optional iCloud backup stores, and what we do not do.
Location
The app needs precise location to draw your route and measure speed, distance, vertical, and slope. Location set to Always lets recording continue when the screen is locked and the phone is in your pocket. Location is used for the app itself. It is not used to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Motion
When the iPhone has a barometer, PowderLog uses it to measure vertical change more steadily than GPS altitude alone.
On your iPhone
Ski days, runs, and the GPS trace are saved on the device. Settings such as metric or imperial units are saved on the device. There is no PowderLog account.
You can rename or delete a day in the app. Deleting a day removes it from that iPhone. If Cloud Sync is on, the delete is also sent to your iCloud backup so another device does not bring the day back.
iCloud backup
Tracking works without a subscription. Cloud Sync is optional and costs $3.99 a year. If you subscribe, ended ski days are copied to your private iCloud database so you can restore them on your other Apple devices. That backup uses the iCloud account already on the device. Apple hosts it. We do not run a separate PowderLog login.
Payment for Cloud Sync is handled by Apple. We do not receive your card number.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your location or ski days.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
- We do not post your days to a social feed.
Children
PowderLog is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will change with it.
